Press Statement The People’s Progressive Party (PPP) held a Lecture on the situation in Burma on Thursday, November 15, 2007 at the Freedom House Auditorium. The aim of the Lecture is to sensitize the public on developments in Myanmar (formerly Burma) and at the same time lend solidarity to the people of Burma who are suffering against the yoke of dictatorial rule. The Lecture was delivered by Dr. Dale Bisnauth to a well attended audience which included former President Mrs. Janet Jagan. Participants agree that stronger action needed to be taken by regional governments and institutions to pressure the military junta to release unconditionally Aung San Sun Kyi from house arrest, restore democracy to the country and bring to an end Child Labour which is in violation of the Conventions of the International Labour Organization. Similar lectures are planned by the Party to focus on other issues of national and international importance including the emerging tense situation in Iran and Pakistan.
