PRESS STATEMENT

The People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) Councillors of the Regional Democratic Council (RDC), Region 4 are deeply concerned about the disruption of today’s (Tuesday, February 19 th, 2008) statutory meeting which was scheduled to be held at 13:00hrs, at the NARI Conference Room, Mon Repos.

This disruption was caused by a bomb scare which was supposedly communicated to the NARI Administration.

This development is worrying as it is counter-productive and affects the work of the region.

We reject in the most categorical terms this kind of behaviour which can retard the progress of the region and the country as a whole. We hope good sense and responsibility prevail over devious thoughts.

The statutory meetings are to deliberate on important matters and arrive at serious decisions for the effective governance of the region.

Those responsible for this disruption seem to be part of a wicked plot to deliberately spread fear and sow confusion among Guyanese.

We would like to implore all civic minded Guyanese to condemn and expose those who are perpetrating such actions aiming to destabilize our country.
